Kedarnath Yatra 2025 remained closed for three days

Kedarnath Yatra 2025 was temporarily halted from August 12 to 14 after the Meteorological Department's alert. During this time, there were frequent incidents of landslides and stone falling between Gaurikund and Kedarnath Dham. Keeping in view the safety of the passengers, the administration decided to suspend the yatra.

After seeing the improvement in the situation on the morning of August 15, the administration allowed the journey from Sonprayag to Gaurikund and further towards Kedarnath Dham. During this time, about two thousand pilgrims left for Kedarnath Dham from Sonprayag.

Major accident on footpath

A huge boulder fell from the hill near Chhodi Gadhera on the Kedarnath footpath at around 10 am on Saturday. This stone fell directly on 38-year-old pilgrim Parmeshwar Bhim Rao Khawal, a resident of Aurangabad, Maharashtra. He died on the spot due to serious head injury.

The police and disaster management team immediately rescued the body and brought it to Gaurikund and sent it to the district hospital for post-mortem.

Strict monitoring by the administration

In view of the safety of the pilgrims, the administration and police are constantly monitoring sensitive places. Especially between Sonprayag and Gaurikund, additional security arrangements have been made.

Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar said that due to continuous rain and the possibility of landslides, pilgrims have been advised to remain alert. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain and danger of floods in many parts of Uttarakhand.
