The doors of Lokpal Laxman Temple located in the high Himalayan region of Uttarakhand were opened for devotees on May 24, 2025 with Vedic chanting and religious rituals. This temple is not only a natural wonder nestled in the lap of the Himalayas, but also a symbol of mythological beliefs associated with the Treta Yuga, where Lord Laxman did penance.

The process of opening the doors started on24 May, when the villagers of Pulna and Bhyundar Valley cleaned and decorated the temple under the leadership of priest Bhagwati Prasad Pandey. The temple was decorated with flowers, and after taking a bath in Hemkund Sarovar, the doors were opened on Saturday in the auspicious time of Krishna Dwadashi.

Abhishek, Shringar and Puja-Archana of Lord Laxman were completed in Brahmamuhurta. Along with this, the local devotees revived the temple by performing ritualistic worship in the temple premises.

When will the devotees be able to get darshan?

Although the doors opened on Saturday, but ritualistic darshan for outside devotees will start from Sunday, May 25, 2025. This tradition has been going on for years that first the local villagers worship, after that the gates are opened for the pilgrims.

What is the religious significance of Lokpal Laxman Temple?

Situated at an altitude of 15,210 feet above sea level, this temple is described in mythological texts as a major tapasya sthal of Treta Yuga. It is believed that during the exile from Ayodhya, Laxman did intense penance here in the incarnation of Sheshnag. This is the reason why this place is famous as "Lokpal Tirtha", and the journey here is considered as difficult as Hemkund Sahib.
